UGA to enforce downtown lot parking after business hours

University of Georgia Transportation and Parking Services will begin managing UGA parking lots downtown after regular business hours starting April 1, according to an ArchNews email sent on March 11. After-hours enforcement will occur Monday-Friday from 6 p.m.-midnight and Saturday-Sunday from 10 a.m.-midnight. This excludes UGA home football game days. The affected lots include N02, N03, N04, W01, W16, Herty Drive areas and One Press Place. A valid UGA parking permit is still required to park in these parking lots prior to 6 p.m. Monday-Friday, according to the email. UGA students, faculty and staff can park in these lots after-hours for free as long as their vehicle information has been added to the Parking Account Management System, according to the email.

Raab naive for pledging to increase trade with China while denying cold war-style tactics

DOMINIC RAAB was branded “naive” today for pledging to increase trade with China while denying that the Tory government is engaging in cold war-style tactics alongside the US. In a speech to the US Aspen Security Forum, the Foreign Secretary said that Britain wanted to “tilt towards the growth opportunities of the future” in China. He said that China is “here to stay” and that Britain would not “hark back” to the frosty relations of the cold war. But his comments came a day after the publication of the government’s integrated review of foreign and defence policy. The document lists China and Russia as challenges and threats.

North Carolina congressman proposes bill to end federal pay for union business

Bishop, a North Carolina Republican, has filed the Do Your Job Act, which would stop union officials from being paid while conducting union business. The National Right to Work Committee said federal workers unions used more than 2.6 million hours of official time for union activity in 2019, costing taxpayers more than $163 million in payroll and other costs. The abusive practice of allowing union work to occur on official time wastes millions of taxpayer dollars every year, as federal employees use paid time off to perform official union duties, Bishop said. The policy was established in 1978 through the Civil Service Reform Act. It allows federal workers unions to use paid hours for lobbying for more benefits or higher pay or to perform other union functions.

Wisconsin small business owners highlight benefits of Gov Tony Evers budget proposal

The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted and exacerbated existing problems facing Wisconsin’s small businesses that the state government should work on solving, a group of business owners told Gov. Tony Evers Tuesday. In an online discussion moderated by Wisconsin Economic Development Corp. Secretary Missy Hughes, about 10 business owners spoke about their struggles through the pandemic and pointed to aspects of Evers’ proposed budget they say could help them recover. Major items to boost the state’s economic recovery include $200 million to support small businesses through WEDC, $200 million to build out broadband internet infrastructure in rural parts of the state, $100 million for a venture capital fund to support Wisconsin’s startups, and a Medicaid expansion, which could draw $1.6 billion in additional federal funding.
